The Questions Worth Asking

A life can be revised without being rejected.

An original fictional story. Crystal meanings and chakra associations are symbolic traditions, not medical claims.

The meaning behind the stone

Lemurian Quartz is a trade name for certain quartz crystals, often recognised by visible horizontal striations on their faces. The name belongs to modern commercial and spiritual storytelling rather than a separate mineral species. Its association with self-exploration and the Crown Chakra can be used as a metaphor for asking better questions about the life we want to make.

Chapter 01

Thirty Candles

On Alex’s thirtieth birthday, friends gathered around a cake and asked the familiar question: “So what’s next?” Alex had a good job, a comfortable flat and a calendar full of sensible plans. The easiest answer would have been a promotion, a mortgage or a bigger holiday. Yet none felt particularly honest. After the party, Alex opened a box of old family recipes inherited from a grandfather who had travelled widely and written notes in the margins: “Try less sugar”; “Best shared with strangers”; “Ask why this works.” The recipes felt less like instructions than invitations.

Chapter 02

The Question Notebook

Alex bought a cheap notebook and began writing questions rather than goals. Which parts of the week felt lively? Which routines existed only through habit? What would be worth learning badly? The answers were untidy. Alex loved a stable home but missed meeting new people; enjoyed problem-solving but wanted more work with tangible outcomes. Instead of quitting everything, Alex took annual leave to visit three towns from the grandfather’s recipe notes, speaking to café owners and trying local dishes along the way.

Chapter 03

Lines on Crystal

At a craft shop during the trip, Alex found a slender Lemurian Quartz point. Fine horizontal lines crossed its surface like marks on a notebook page. A card described the crystal as a symbol of inner exploration. Alex bought it and kept it in a cloth pouch beside the questions notebook. The stone’s lines invited a simple comparison: our lives are not blank surfaces. They hold marks from earlier decisions, and we can still choose what to write next.

Chapter 04

Trying on a Different Day

Back home Alex volunteered once a month at a community kitchen and enrolled in a short food-writing course. The first article was overlong and self-conscious. The second was better. During work hours Alex proposed a practical project that involved visiting customers rather than sitting in meetings all day. Nothing changed at once, but the weeks began to contain more things that felt chosen. Some experiments went nowhere. The point was not to turn every interest into a career; it was to discover what deserved more attention.

Chapter 05

An Honest Answer

A year later another friend asked what came next. Alex did not have a neat five-year plan. There was a new writing habit, a weekend project with the community kitchen and a more interesting role at work. The inherited recipes were now stained with use. Alex picked up the lined quartz crystal from the windowsill and considered how many earlier versions of a life could remain meaningful. “I’m still finding out,” Alex said. This time, it sounded like a good answer.

The message

Self-discovery is less about uncovering one hidden destiny than about paying attention to the questions we are willing to live with.
